The Video Transcript:
Here’s trick number four. You don’t have this big old powerhouse in hearts and spades, but you’re on lead. You just take it out, Rip City. It doesn’t matter if you have a heart or not. Uh, you don’t need a heart in your hand here because you’re gonna win everything in these suits, and you make the moon, okay? So that’s another way of doing it.
Then we have variety three, and that’s a suit that’s kind of broken, you know? It needs a few key cards. Okay, maybe it’s got something like this, and people just don’t want to, you know, don’t want to play defense. They just will not do anything to try to stop you. So here we are, same scenario. Now these suits weren’t ace king queen jack 10 here, but you can make the moon because you’ll lead the ace of clubs and somebody with the king will throw it under you. Then you can lead the queen of clubs, and they’ll throw it on you because I don’t want the lead, and then you’ll lead the ace of diamonds, and they’ll accommodate you by throwing the king on you. Then they’ll lead the queen of diamonds, and lo and behold, the jack comes out, and the rest of your hand is good, and thank you very much. That’s called a cooperative moon.
And the last one is the variety where you’ve got one heart in your hand, say a middle one like that, and you’ve taken some tricks, and the queen of spades has been dropped on you, and you only have that one heart in your hand along with all these clubs and diamonds, and you lead it, and somebody at the other people at the table, the one with the ace and the king of hearts, “I don’t want to take four points.” No, so they duck, and that goes through, and you shoot. Now I can never understand why people would not want to take four points to stop 26, but people will do it. So that’s how you shoot the moon. You can take it off the top, people can help you, or you can make it in side suits.
