The Video Transcript:
The moon, a game of hearts, is shooting the moon, taking them all. Now, if we look at these cards, this is the moon. Now, you’re not likely to have all these hearts and the queen of spades in your hand. You may not even have the queen of spades, but one thing is for sure: there are two ways to shoot the moon, actually three, but we’ll talk about the primary two ways.
Number one, you could have a rip-snort and hot suit that looks something like this, maybe not even with the nine. You can have a low one with it, right?
And you’ve taken the queen of spades and you’re on lead, and you just rip it off the top: ace, king, queen, jack, ten. That should clean up the whole suit, unless somebody’s got six of them, and you’ve made the moon, and that’s great. 26 points to the opponents or some people play, you can subtract 26 from your score in the tournaments.
We don’t allow subtraction until somebody’s 74 or more in 100-point games, so we don’t have a necessary subtraction.
There’s another way to get to the moon too. You could have a hand that has all winning clubs and diamonds, no hearts, right? You know, don’t eat any hearts. Somebody throws the queen on you, and you’ve got all the big cards and diamonds.
Let’s just imagine that this is the whole diamond suit, and you’ve got all the big clubs too, right? And we’ll assume that the ace has been played. You’ve got an absolutely killer hand, right? After three tricks have been played, and you’re on trick number four, right? And it’s your lead. You don’t have any hearts in your hand. Well, you wouldn’t have the ace of clubs.
